GREER JONES-WOODHAM

selfWhen I refer to the idea of painting I refer to different schools, for instance the Color Field Painters for the idea of flat colour having volume; the Impressionists for the light; the Cubists for their different perspectives of seeing one object, and the Abstract Expressionists for the kinds of marks that they make.

I always refer to space as heaven and earth. The space, which is always a square or rectangle, is specific, but I always feel that the edge is the confinement of the square so that colour is used to break the edges of the frame allowing the space to become seamless. The frames bring you in or take you out and around. You can go around the periphery of the frame, go inside and go back out. The surface is a tangible, shifting space. There is a light that reflects in its own space. I invite you to come into my space and see what I see.
